Selena Savage Septet
group bio
Formed in April 2025, the Selena Savage Septet is an intergenerational jazz ensemble with an unmistakable sonic identity. Featuring warm, conversational arrangements, lush harmonies, and a tight, unified sound, the seven-piece band has made a mark in Toronto’s vibrant scene.
With her Septet, Selena takes great care to honour the music of the Canadian composers and arrangers who developed the “Toronto Sound”. In July 2026, the band performed a well-received tribute to the late Rob McConnell at the Pilot, and continues to pay homage to his work through their repertoire.
Alongside the group’s Canadian influences, Selena’s arrangements and compositions draw from the tradition of Big Band and large jazz ensembles, pioneered by musicians such as Duke Ellington, Sammy Nestico, Count Basie, Art Blakey, and Gil Evans.
The Selena Savage Septet performs regularly around Toronto, both at festivals and at venues such as The Rex, Jazz Bistro, The Emmet Ray, and The Pilot.
